Government grants 293.7 million euros to rehabilitate public buildings

Local entities throughout Spain will receive funds for the refurbishment of public buildings. There are 187 local entities that will have this benefit and 55% of the renovations will be carried out in buildings with cultural, sports and educational use.

The benefit has been granted by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) in support of NextGeneration funds. More than fourteen million citizens nationwide will benefit from this fund. It should be noted that more than half of the beneficiary local authorities have a population of 20,000 inhabitants or less, and among them some 55 localities have a population of no more than 10,000 inhabitants.

Of the 293.7 million euros, some 274.1 million will be destined to municipalities, councils, deputations or councils, within the framework of Line 2 of the program for the integral rehabilitation of locally-owned public buildings (Pirep local). The remaining 19.5 million euros correspond to the resolution of the allegations of lines 1 and 2.

75 actions will be destined to buildings for cultural use, 25 for administrative use, 15 for sports use and another 17 for educational use. The rest will be varied, although the plan also includes rehabilitations for municipal markets, police stations, civic centers and laboratories.

These funds are now added to the 307 million euros that were granted in 2022 in Line 1 of Impulse to the Rehabilitation of Public Buildings (local Pirep), therefore, the total funding will be about 596 rehabilitation projects towards 492 local entities nationwide.

There are nine provisional beneficiaries who have 10 days from the notification of the resolution to accept, renounce or file the pertinent allegations. The final grant of the aid orders that once the rehabilitation is completed, these buildings will be destined for public use for at least twenty years and will generate savings in energy consumption.

This also guarantees a reduction of more than 30% in the consumption of non-renewable primary energy. The Mitma launched the call for both lines of aid of the Program to Promote the Rehabilitation of Public Buildings of Local Entities in the first quarter of 2022. However, line 1 had a shorter deadline for offers and resolution than line 2. But line 2 has scale requirements to be able to participate in the projects.
