FADEI asks the government to regulate real estate professional activity

The Federation of Associations of Real Estate Companies (FADEI) has urged the Spanish government to efficiently regularize the real estate sector. During the National Rental Congress, held in Madrid this week, Miguel Ángel Gómez Huecas, president of the Spanish real estate employers' association and the Madrid Association of Real Estate Companies (AMADEI), took advantage of the closing ceremony to emphasize the "need for a professionalized and regulated real estate sector" and requested the Government of Pedro Sánchez to regulate professional real estate activity in Spain.

"We can't go on like this. The Spanish real estate industry represents more than 12% of the national GDP. In this sector there are still people who carry out transactions of hundreds of thousands of euros without being able to demonstrate the necessary knowledge to do so," lamented the president of FADEI.

According to the leader of the employers' association, both the Government and the citizens themselves should demand the professionalization of those they trust when buying, selling or renting a house, since, in many cases, it is a matter of a lifetime's savings.

"It is surprising that it is we, real estate professionals, who should request the regulation of our own profession,” Huecas added during his speech.

Currently, only Catalonia has a minimum regulation to practice the real estate profession. In this autonomous community it is mandatory to have the accreditation of Real Estate Agent of Catalonia (AICAT) and to be registered in the register of real estate agents. In the Valencian Community, work has also been done in this direction with a decree of the Generalitat Valenciana and the creation of the Register of Real Estate Brokerage Agents, which, currently, is being appealed by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC).
