Digi and Abrdn will invest EUR 300 million in fiber optics for 2.5 million homes in Andalusia

The Abrdn Core Infrastructure fund and Romanian operator Digi have signed an alliance to build a fiber optic network for 2.5 million homes in Andalusia, with an expected investment of EUR 300 million over the next three years.

As a result, a Digi subsidiary will be created, to which the operator will contribute millions of units of already constructed properties, according to company sources.

In addition, an additional 1.5 million homes will be deployed on Digi smart fiber, incrementally, over the next three years.

The two parties confirmed that the investment would be split equally and could be complemented by equity from the bank.

Marius Varzaro, CEO of Digi Spain, said: "We are very committed to Andalusia and thanks to this agreement we will be able to reach more homes in the community.

Core Infrastructure's chief investment officer, Soti Calochristos, highlighted Digi's commitment to building "quality" infrastructure and democratizing internet access.
