The most beautiful house in Spain is in Avila and it "floats” in the air

Undoubtedly, the mission of the National Architecture Prize of Spain, “to find the most perfect house in the country”, cannot be called easy. Professionals have faced the difficult task of comparing different types of villas, cottages, mansions and chalets, to finally choose only one. However, the chosen one has conquered the hearts of many and has been awarded by the Superior Council of the Colleges of Architects as the most beautiful house. But why is it so special? The House in Red has an area of 345.45 m2 and is located on the banks of the San Juan Reservoir, in Calas de Guisando (Ávila), in the middle of a pine forest and with access to a pier on the "Madrid beach". Built with sustainable materials, it remains completely integrated into the landscape, preserving the topography of the place, thanks to its unique floating design, offered by Estudio Entresitio.

The house is made up of a series of red wood and glass buildings, arranged on different levels as a kind of steps, descending to the lake. The decoration is minimalist and functional, each space has its own private entrance, while the open concept distribution between the living room, the kitchen and the dining room invites to a large common area. Here, where all family members can meet, an impressive fireplace suspended from the ceiling reigns.

The construction of the house has focused on a non-invasive architecture that respects the ecological value of the swamp and the forest. The structure has been made with cross-laminated boards lined in wood and impressive glass walls that allowed to increase the entrance of natural light and thus improve energy efficiency. This combination protects the house as a "red-painted wooden skin that becomes transparent to capture light and views when necessary," the authors of the project explained.

The Entresitio Studio, based in Madrid and New York, specializes in the translation of conceptual ideas into original contemporary buildings. Their brilliant project of the House in Red has been awarded in a tie with the rehabilitation work of the 1822 buildings in Barcelona, carried out by Harquitectes.
